Nearly 230 boats will set sail Saturday in the 2012 Bell's Beer Bayview Mackinac Race, with crews from St. Clair Shores and beyond. 

The race started in 1925 and is the longest-running freshwater race around the world, according to Bayview's website. 

Yachts from St. Clair Shores have been successful in the race, with boats including Equation and Lightning winning the race. 

According to the race participants list, there are six boats racing from St. Clair Shores. There are many sailors from the Shores competing in the race including Old Goats Kurt Hohn and Doug Moll.

Moll will be racing on the Flyin' Irish, a 40-foot J/120 owned by William Bresser of Gosse Pointe Park, and skippered by his son Jerry Bresser of Grosse Pointe Woods. 

Friends, family and race fans can also follow the race on Bayview site through  YellowBrick tracking of the boats, which allows GPS tracking and mapping of each boat throughout the race. There is also a mobile version for iPhones and iPads for those who want to check the status when a computer is not accessible.
