St. Clair Shores Police Conduct K2 Sweep

St. Clair Shores police did not find any stores in the city selling the synthetic drug known as K2 or Spice.

St. Clair Shores police conducted a sweep of businesses Wednesday throughout city to determine if any were in violation of the county-wide ban on K2 and Spice.

The sweep of the party stores and gas stations was conducted at the request of Mayor Kip Walby.

Following the operation, St. Clair Shores police reported that all businesses were compliant and not attempting to selling the substances prohibited by the new Health Department order.

The issues concern city officials and residents, who addressed the issue during Monday's City Council meeting.

In addition to the local efforts in St. Clair Shores and Macomb County to ban the synthetic drugs, the Michigan House of Representatives took action Thursday to have them removed statewide.

A package of bills passed the State House by temporarily categorizing the products as controlled substances. The bills also establish penalties for breaking the law.

According to press release from the House Republicans, the legislative package lists chemical classifications that are prohibited and grants authority to the Michigan State Police to remove those drugs from stores effective July 1.

What's with this "temporary" classification as a narcotic? Anyone got any doubts that it is highly addictive? That's all they need to place it under schedule one. They don't need to break it down to it's ingredients.. it's not about which ingredient causes the addictions. It is now and always was illegal according to the laws we have now.

I love the movement though.. all of you are giving me a sense of pride in my neighbors, police, judges, and politicians i would of never had before. You all are doing the right thing.. and i appreciate it. Just some of you still are going about it wrong.. "banning" never works on anything. Just keep it illegal for gas stations and convience stores to sell drugs and we won't need any more bans. Keep it a crime to sell fake drugs, and keep it a crime to sell drugs that kill people as murder.

Just keep an eye on the back doors of these stores and check out some homes of the owners. Cause i know there is a supply out there somewhere just waiting for it to be banned.

I support the ban on K2...I think that gas stations and party stores having the drug so readily accessable sends a message to children and teenagers that it's safe to use, when clearly it is not. Will banning K2 result in it being sold on the black market?? Perhaps. But rest assured it will not be my child getting mugged trying to obtain it on the streets, because they will know better. I'm 34 years old and have never once tried a recreational drug in my life. Why?? Because my parents made sure I knew how dangerous such drugs could be, and I fully plan on passing the message on to my children. Society has a responsibility to ensure that drugs like K2 aren't as easy to obtain as cigarettes and fraudently marketed and sold as safe...parents have the responsibility to ensure that their children know the dangers and consequences of using such a drug, black market or not. Working together, we can send the message to our kids that they can get high on life...not on drugs.

That's the message they've been giving our children for at least 4 years here in Mich. Stacey. It doesn't make any sense to me. This product has been making it's way around the world for the past 12 years at least. And in dozens of countrys they've been banning these drugs during this whole time. Even in the US there are 11 other states that have already banned it.. the Marines and Air Force have banned it already for their servicemen. That's what gets me.. there have been numerous deaths from these products and yet we allow the stores to still sell it by deceiving people. Something has been terribly rotten for this whole time!! It has been and still is illegal to sell someone a fake drug and it doesn't even matter what this stuff is made of. If ya don't believe me.. try taking a chunk of soap and selling it to an undercover cop by saying "you wanna buy a rock" Same deception so you should be safe right? Just try it!
I'm glad you had great parents Stacey.. i'm proud of you for being a good mom.. and i'm happy to see you joining the conversation, we need people with voices. This to me is a problem that has been ignored or covered up for far too long, we've been too silent.

I don't know about you.. but i hadn't heard anything of these products untill just months ago.. yet it has been here for years. That's how this stuff has been allowed to spread so far and wide. Few news reports of it nationally or internationally and locally so now that has to change.
