St. Clair Shores Man Charged With Stabbing His 'Best Friend'
A 17-year-old St. Clair Shores man was charged Tuesday with assault with intent to murder after he allegedly stabbed his "best friend" four times.
A 17-year-old St. Clair Shores man was charged Tuesday in 40th District Court with assault with intent to murder for allegedly stabbing his "best friend" four times with a steak knife.
Shane Spatafore was spending the night with his "best friend" since seventh grade when he is alleged to have gotten into an argument about 2:30 a.m. Monday with the 17-year-old, grabbed a steak knife and stabbed him four times.
St. Clair Shores Police Det. Margaret Eidt stated during his arraignment that the force of the stabbings bent the knife blade, punctured a lung and may have caused internal bleeding.
He then fled the scene, damaging patio furniture at a neighbor's house on 13 Mile Road, before he was located by police. Spatafore is alleged to have resisted arrest, and had to be subdued by a Taser before he was taken into custody, police said.
Defense attorney David Pietroski stated that Spatafore was at his friend's house, and once the others at the sleepover started using a liquid acid, he went to bed.
"He didn't want to get involved," Pietroski said.
Pietroski said his client believes he was drugged while sleeping, which may have contributed to the assault.
Despite a request to be placed on house arrest, 40th District Court Judge Joseph Oster set bond at $200,000 and arraigned him on one count of assault with intent to murder, two counts of resisting arrest and one count of malicious destruction of property. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.
The Lake Shore High School student and football player, who was to start school this week, will be held in the Macomb County Jail prior to his next court date on Sept. 14.
In addition to the assault, Spatafore is also facing car theft and breaking and entering a vehicle charges in St. Clair Shores and Grosse Pointe Woods. In both of those cases he is charged as a juvenile.

Well put Tom......I say fry his ass and tell the atty's to stop pushing drug issues and tell their clients its time to face the music like a punk you are....He willfully made the choice to act as he did, just as he did on the vehicle charges. He gets no sympathy from me because he's crying, hey tough guyt...you got caught, hahaha, not to funny now is it dumbass? Don't drop the soap in the shower once you move into your new 8 by 10 bedroom, kitchen, exposed bathroom, enjoy paying for your actions.

I'm reserving judgment on this one...
Stabbing your best friend, destroying property and resisting arrest could be a young, stupid punk kid move...or a kid who was drugged or on drugs.
I truly hope blood was pulled for a toxicology report...or else it will all be hearsay.
I would be interested to hear his past and history.
How he does in school, any issues there? Any issues with the law prior to this, driving record, etc. Any kind of pattern of violence or breaking the law?
He's got one of the best attorneys in Southeast Michigan...we'll see how this plays out.

Wow I Know this kid was a pretty good one, shows what drugs can do, i think its funny he said he was drugged in his sleep when we all know that didnt happen. Just shows what drugs can do and his lesson unfourtenently is the loss of his freedom

I'm saying that part of the story is false, he wasn't drugged. He's just a fucked up person.

He lost his father at a very young age because of a tragedy, and yes he has had issues because of it. Don't cast judgement when you don't know the facts.

Just me so you are saying what he did is fine because his father passed at a young age? That he's not responsible for actions because of this ?
Are you mentally challenged?
Or a young kid who doesn't realize this stuff happens and that mommy and daddy wont always be there to keep you from getting into trouble for something you did?
There will be a day when they aren't there at all

His father dying at a very young age doesn't effect anything. Doing drugs doesn't make anything better if he misses his father. He's the youngest, so he probably does not even remember him that much. Having your father pass away cannot be his excuse for everything. And trust me, I know it mostly is... I'm keeping this anon.

I agree he hasn't had the best home life but that doesn't excuse what he has done, he has slipped thru the cracks one to many times and now we will see how he handles being charged as an adult

So obviously you are involved w this child and by your ignorant comments we now all know what happened. Kids lose their parents all the time...as long as the remaining parent isnt an ignorant asshole he would have had a chance. Enjoy visiting him in state pen..maybe his parent should also be locked away for neglect.

no one on here is defending his actions. But for you few narrow minded people that think because a kid does drugs he automatically has bad parents, you are wrong. His mom is college educated has a good job and attended her kids school functions. Likely more than can be said about you based on your time to comment on things you don't know about. I think his mom tried hard based on the cards she was dealt.

I hope he gets locked up, to bad Michigan doesn't have the death penalty, what a best friend he "was", well atleast he didn't eat his face after or before stabbing him and saying he was on bath salts

Shane's a good kid man. We all make mistakes. I'm not excusing what he did but none of you know him on a personal level. He's a funny guy and his mom is a good mother. Don't try telling me your mom knew about everything you did as a teenager. The judge will pass judgement. Shame on you all for trying to.

I played bball with this kid back then he was a good kid just hard to beilieve something like this. Step-dad and mom were both nice people from what i could tell his step-dad coached the team. Just a classic case of a good kid getting mixed up in a very bad crowd. Its a damn shame.

I hate that everyone can now leave their permanent trails of crap all over news articles about people they don't know about. Nobody cares about your ignorant: "I'm such a moral citizen! where were the parents at? (because i obviously am a much better parent! or even better I dont have kids!)" Glad I'm not in his situation, I feel so much better about myself now that I can type it out anonymously! And not feel anything for his family like the sociopath I am!.... You should all feel ashamed of yourselves for the sake of your dignity and your own families. Think of what his family is going through. Think of all the heartache they are going through and reading your stupid posts on top of that. Is it really worth it? to shove and rub your garbage all over their faces as if they don't know how bad it is that they also need your opinion? who are you people? animals.

Noone looks at the bright side, atleast his friend is still alive, but even though he is still alive, this kid should be prosecuted, drugs or not it was his choice to do this his choice to do drugs.

I knew him personally and he never was a volant person. We got out of contact a little over a year ago and he never was like this, I'm not saying what happened was right but, you can't 100% blame him, if he was using it at that time or got drugged, Acid could make you act, think and react different. Oh and CJA, you sound ignorant, when you were a kidd you either drank or smoked, or did a bump, and you could say where were the parents, you are a sinner as well, so don't play saint, when you speak with stuck filth in your tongues. I hope none of you talking bad claim to be a CHRISTIAN, because you are not acting like one. Yes wise words from someone that is only nineteen.

It is such a shame when one of our own falls, you come out like dogs. This is a 17 year old boy,a boy,not a man, and you people are wishing the death penalty and one wishes this 17 year old boy, gets raped, how is that justice and how is that you think that is normal, because its not you.No one know what happened, and never will, but if you take any 17 year old any dr. can tell you they see A and B the brain is not developed to go to C and D so if he was given drugs then all bets off. But in heavens sake adults should know that persecuting a 17 year old BOY without the facts is just not right, and you know right from wrong and yet you do it. His family, his brothers, his girlfriend, his team, his friends, the friend he hurt and there familys, are all in termoil, and you adults are out with pitchforks and fire ready to hunt a monster.Insted of hateful coments prayers for the familys, and help for your children, and help for kids who need help,so easy to kick someone when there down, insted offer them a hand to pick them up, remember, he without sin cast the first stone, and wishing harm is as bad as doing harm, prayers be with the familys, and some peace to Shane he has to be just scared out of hia mind. Dont be so quick to judge its not that easy, and one day you may be on the other side of judgment.

You guys have this all wrong. Where were the parents in Shanes situation? If he exhibited prior issues showing he was making bad choices was it addressed? If he had issues because he lost his dad did his parent get him help? This is sad for him and sad for his family and I dont feel I am not showing compassion for this kid. And by the way I am a christian I have raised children and no...I never did a " bump" or smoked when I was young because I was taught to respect myself more than that. No one is wishing harm but the hard reality is somewhere parents were not parenting and they need to take responsibility for this. To the person named pissed off who told everyone to f off in pist...sorry that is ignorance at its best and maybe if this is what surroynded Shane he never had a chance to begin with.

All i can say is , if he was drugd then there was someone that was there at that sleep over, that knows , an needs to say something , an that a drug test should have been tookin right away at the station. And if the acid was takin on purpose , ingaging into an arguement while tripping an seeing things , probly isnt going to help or improve his judgement or way of thinking at the time . Im not saying that he's not guilty , just sayin that it is a good possibilty that while fighting with his friend , in his mind he was taking on a pink an green poka dotted elephant , while the world is melting around him ! But then again he could have been all there in the head an just went crazy on his friend durring the fight n then took it to the next level,! For which we all know that , there is no reason to try n kill another person unless you or your family is in deaths sights!!!! So all in all i am staying open minded till there is more proof .

Well.. With his background, I know he is not the type of person to back down from acid and go to bed. The main problem is that he did actually stab someone, he did actually resist arrest, and he did destruct his neighbor's patio furniture. Even if the drugs made him do it or not, he still did it. Yes of course, no witnesses will be telling the complete truth because they were most likely involved with the acid too. People need to stop saying it wasn't his fault. He's broken into a car, and has done illegal things, don't try to say he isn't that type of person to stab someone. Yes, drugs make you do crazy things, but whether he did take acid or was drugged, he was involved. And Shane DID STAB a friend. Whether the drug made him do it or not, he still did it. And resisted arrest. And was involved with drugs.

This is absurd. Anyone who honestly thinks that smoking pot & dropping acid is going to make somebody turn lunatic & start stabbing people is living in a vacuum. This is the most ridiculous cop-out I've ever heard, and to think this bs defense is actually being taken into consideration says an awful lot about the judge's judgement, the judgement of all Attorneys involved, everyone sitting in that courtroom, as well as the general public who blatantly has the wool pulled right over their heads.
