Update: St. Clair Shores Attorney Charged With Embezzling Nearly $400K
The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office has brought charges against a St. Clair Shores attorney for allegedly embezzling nearly $400,000 from a trust for two teenage boys. He was arraigned Tuesday.
The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office has charged an attorney from St. Clair Shores with allegedly stealing nearly $400,000 from a trust for two teenage boys.
Robert Buschmohle, 39, who is charged with embezzlement over $100,000, was appointed sole trustee of a living trust for two Warren males.
Investigators allege Buschmohle wrote checks to himself from the fund over four years, draining it of all $389,000.
The mother of the boys attempted to contact Buschmohle as they neared the trust disbursement age of 19 to find out how they would receive their payments. After she was unable to contact him, she made a complaint to the Attorney Grievance Commission, who brought the matter to the Warren Police, according to the release.
“This family placed their trust in this man, and he stole everything down to their last penny,” Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith said in a release. “It’s a sad example of the old adage: sometimes it’s easier to rob you with a fountain pen than it is with a gun.”
If convicted, Buschmohle could serve up to 20-years in prison.
Update at 5:08 p.m.: Buschmohle was arraigned Tuesday in 37th District Court in Warren on one count of embezzlement over $100,000. He is free on $100,000 personal bond. He will return to court for an exam on March 5.
