Shelby Resident Lends Finance Expertise to Macomb County Homeless Shelter
Shelby Township resident elected to MCREST Board of Directors.
Shelby Township resident Damon Sorenson was elected to fill a vacancy on the Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team (MCREST) Board of Directors. His term will expire in May 2012.
MCREST works with 90 churches throughout Macomb County to act as homeless shelters year-round for men, women, and families as well as provide many services to help the homeless transition to independence.
Sorenson, 50, is the Chief Financial Director of Mount Clemens Regional. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Moorhead State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Lake Superior State University.
Previously, Sorenson has worked at Wilmed Healthcare in Wilson, NC. Since 1985, he has held various positions in health care finance, including Chief Financial Officer at Alpena Regional Medical Center, Vice President of Finance at CMH Healthcare in Cheboygan and Controller at St. Mary’s Hospital in Minnesota.

Garcia, 34, of Chesterfield Township was elected to the Advisory Committee to help with MCREST’s public relations needs. Garcia has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Oakland University and has written for The Oakland Post, The Voice Newspapers, Patch and served as the previous media specialist in the Office of Public Affairs for the Macomb County Board of Commissioners. He is currently employed by Macomb County Community Mental Health as a Central Records clerk.
