Update: Police Identify Victim in Fatal Accident

A 26-year-old man from Standish was killed Saturday after he was hit by a vehicle on eastbound I-94. Police have closed eastbound I-94 at 11 Mile. The freeway has since reopened.

Police closed eastbound Interstate 94 at 11 Mile Road for nearly six hours Saturday after a 26-year-old road worker was struck and killed by a vehicle.

The worker, who was identified by the Michigan State Police as Justin Vallad in multiple media reports, was part of a survey crew from Surveying Solutions Inc., which was contracted by the Michigan Department of Transportation.

About 8:07 a.m. the worker was struck by a vehicle in a work zone between Frazho and 12 Mile, according to MDOT spokesman Rob Morosi.
