State Sen. Steve Bieda, D-Warren, led Michigan’s Electoral College delegates in the Pledge of Allegiance Monday during a ceremony in the State Senate chambers to cast Michigan’s 16 electoral votes to President Barack Obama.

“I was deeply honored to participate in Michigan’s Electoral College vote.  As a history buff, my participation in this constitutionally mandated event was an honor that I will always remember,” said Sen. Bieda, in a release. “The re-election of President Obama is an historic event, and I was humbled to play a role in today’s ceremonies. Michigan directly benefited from President Obama’s efforts to revitalize America’s auto industry. We’ve seen the big three hire more workers and make further investments in our state. I’m excited to see that growth continue during his second term.”

Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer chaired the proceedings, and Bieda served as the assistant chair.

The delegates represented each of Michigan’s 14 congressional districts and 2 at-large delegates. They all cast their votes for the re-election of the president.
