Festival of the Arts
Community members will have an opportunity to view the talents of South Lake students during the fifth annual Festival of the Arts, which will be held from 5-9 p.m. Thursday, at South Lake High School.
Visitors will get to see artwork created by students form all grade levels.
Elementary artwork will be on display from floor to ceiling in the cafeteria, and each student will be represented by at least one piece of artwork, said music teacher Lisa Mangan, one of the event's organizers.
The middle and high school artwork will be on display throughout the hallways, and the pieces will be adjudicated by prominent local artists and other judges, Mangan said. Recognition ribbons will be awarded for winning entries.
Also on display will be artwork from local archdiocese schools that have a partnership with South Lake.
In addition, students from all five South Lake Schools will perform mini-concerts throughout the evening.

South Lake superintendent Pamela Balint said the Celebration of the Arts is a great community event.
“It truly showcases our students’ talents and the skills of our teachers, who foster those talents. It also gives students who might not always shine academically, a place to excel,” Balint said. “We hope many members of the South Lake community come out and show their support for the kids, because they have put a lot of effort into their artwork and musical performances.”

The St. Clair Shores Optimist Club, along with clubs throughout Macomb County and the Grosse Pointes will be holding the annual Junior Golf Tournament for boys and girls, ages 10-18, at the Cherry Creek Golf Club in Shelby Township.
