Whether you have a special occasion to celebrate, or maybe you just don't want to fire up the oven on a hot summer day, St. Clair Shores has plenty of dining options to choose from. This week, Patch is highlighting those that have something for everyone in the family.
Olga's Kitchen has a casual, relaxed atmosphere. Their menu boasts a wide selection of signature sandwiches, soups and salads for the older family members. For the little ones, they offer a customizable kid's menu for $2.99. First up, choose your entree. Selections include hot dogs, peanut butter and jelly and a few of their signature sandwiches. Next choose your sides, french fries, veggies, fruits and salads are just some of the options. Finally, choose from soda, juice or milk for your drink. If there's room left in your belly, there's also a dessert selection. They also have the Olga's Kids Birthday Club which offers a free meal to kids on their birthday. Sign up is available online. Olga's Kitchen is open Mon -Sat from 10:30 a.m. - 10 p.m. and Sun from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.
The next two spots on our list offer both indoor and outdoor seating.
Gilbert's Lodgeis group-friendly and offers casual dining and a louder atmosphere, so if the kids get rowdy it'll probably go unnoticed. Pizza, steaks, burgers and sandwiches are some of the menu options for the older set, though the younger ones may enjoy a slice or two. Kids can choose from spaghetti and meatballs, chicken fries and french fries, burgers, kiddie grilled cheese with fries, fish and chips or hot dogs. They offer free pop and refills but milk is also available. If you have a birthday party or any other celebration coming up, ask about renting out their trophy room. Hours of operation are Mon - Sat from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Sun from noon - 2 a.m.
Shores Inn is usually a hot spot to catch a game, but it's also a great place to take the family for dinner. They offer daily and weekly specials. Stop in on a Monday and get a burger for $4.95, the offer goes all day and night. If you stop in during happy hour, 3 - 6 p.m., all appetizers are buy one get one free, so it's great if your family is on a budget. Their Junior Club Menu offers Shorian chicken fingers with fries, fish and chips, grilled cheese, pasta bowls, hamburgers and cheeseburgers as well as pizza bread. Hours of operation are Mon - Sat from 11 a.m. - 1 a.m. and Sun from noon - midnight.
Next up is a Detroit original, National Coney Island. They have a three locations around the Shores. The one located at 31095 Harper Ave. offers bar-style seating as well as booths for the family. Their large menu is sure to have something to please even the pickiest eater in your family. Choose from hannis, soups, salads, chili, burgers, fries (covered in cheese, chili and cheese or just plain), and of course, Coney dogs. To keep the cost down, check out their combo meal options. They also have a breakfast menu if you prefer pancakes for dinner. Hours of operation are Mon - Sat from 8:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Sun from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.
The Copper Penny is a family-style diner serving traditional American fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The atmosphere is laid back with casual dining which is good for large groups and kids. They have breakfast specials for those who come in early. For lunch and dinner, choose from their selection of sandwiches, chicken dishes and soups. They take reservations but walk-ins are always welcome and take-out is available. Hours of operation are Mon - Sat from 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. and Sun from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.
