Lakeview Collects Hundreds of Cell Phones for Soldiers

Lakeview's Huskies with Heart collected 625 phones which will be used to provide 37,500 minutes for soldiers to call home.

Members of the Lakeview Public School community and St. Clair Shores collected 625 phones for Cell Phones for Soldiers program.

The collection drive, which was organized by the Huskies with Heart organization, takes proceeds from gently used cell phones that are refurbished and recycled and to purchase 60-minute calling cards that are sent to troops serving overseas.

Through the generosity of the community, 37,500 minutes of call time will be purchased for soldiers.

Lakeview High School also won a pizza party from 99.5 FM WYCD for the large number of cell phones collected.

"I am so proud to be a part of such a great group, the Lakeview Huskies with Heart," said Matt Barranca, the club’s staff adviser, in an email.
