Cops for Kids Alumni Hockey Game Fundraiser to Feature the Stanley Cup
Organizers of Saturday's hockey game between the Detroit Red Wings and Lakeview alumni will feature the Stanley Cup.
The game at Civic Arena will bring back Huskies from teams between 1973-1992, including members of the 1975 state championship team, to take on the Red Wings Alumni. Proceeds from the game will go to the charity which provides a Christmas to underprivileged children and families in the city.
This is the latest charity game for the Lakeview hockey alumni, who last took the ice two years ago against Lake Shore, and approached Police Chief Michael Walleman about a game for the non-profit.
"(They) wanted to put together a benefit game and do it for Cops for Kids," said Walleman, who was a member of the 1975 Lakeview state championship team. "I was more than happy to skate in the game and help organize (the game)."
A cross-section of the community has come together to help make the game a success and assist Cops for Kids, which helped 117 families and 286 children last year.
Roy O'Brien Ford donated $3,500 to cover the fee for the Detroit Red Wings Alumni team. Other businesses and organizations contributed to the event including $1,000 from First State Bank and Fisher Dynamics, $500 from the Optimist Club of St. Clair Shores and Landscape Services and $600 from 50/50 drawing organized by fellow Lakeview alumnus David Rubello.
Ken Kal, the Red Wings radio play-by-play announcer and St. Clair Shores resident, will be a guest announcer for the game .
In addition to seeing the Red Wings alumni, attendees will also have the opportunity to see the Stanley Cup and have their photo taken with trophy for a $10 donation.
The puck drops for the game at 7 p.m. Saturday at Civic Arena. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for kids 12 years old and under.
Tickets for the game are available at the Civic Arena, the police department and the four local Little Caesars restaurants at 22111 Greater Mack Ave., 27317 Harper Ave., 31541 Harper Ave., 16125 East 10 Mile Rd., Eastpointe.
