Lake St. Clair Boating Accident Victim Identified
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office releases the name of Eastpointe man who died on Lake St. Clair Saturday.
The Macomb County Sheriff identified Monday the 37-year-old male from Eastpointe who died in a boating accident on Lake St. Clair this weekend.
Sheriff Anthony Wickersham stated that Hassen Randel died Saturday from an apparent drowning. Toxicology results are pending.
Randel was a passenger in a 17-foot, fiberglass boat that capsized a half mile east of the Clinton River. The 48-year-old boat operator from Southfield called 911, telling the Macomb County Sheriff's dispatcher that the boat was taking on water and sinking.
Crews from Coast Guard Station St. Clair Shores pulled the men, who were both wearing life vests, out of the water and transported them to the Sheriff’s Marine Division where EMS crews were waiting and transported them to Mount Clemens General Hospital.
The boat operator was treated for hypothermia. Randel was pronounced dead at the hospital.
