Lake Shore Grad to Captain All-Star Football Game
Lake Shore graduate Travis Joseph will captain the East All Stars in the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association East-West All Star Game. He will also be coached by new South Lake coach Chanterious Brock.
When the best football players in the state take the field today at Bahlke Field on the campus of Alma College, they will be led by Lake Shore graduate Travis Joseph.
Joseph, a fullback who will play his college ball at William Penn College, was selected to captain the 44-member East team in the 32nd annual Michigan High School Football Coaches Association East-West All Star Game.
"He said he had a great week and duly rewarded," said Tom Iwanicki, Lake Shore football coach. "Travis is a great kid, always motivated and always read to lead the pack."
Iwanicki said Lake Shore has sent three players to the All Star Game during his tenure, and Joseph is the first to be named captain.
When Joseph takes the field, one of his coaches will be new South Lake coach Chanterious Brock.
Brock, who has coached for 11 years and has served as a defensive coordinator at Denby, Madison Heights and Oak Park high school, calls being a coach at the All-Star game an "immense honor and a privilege."
"The experience has been great ... The kids have been great and coaching with Coach Gianone (Macomb Dakota) has been a learning experience beyond measure," he wrote in an email.
He is also looking forward to the coming season at South Lake.
"This upcoming season, I'm most looking forward to seeing my kids develop as young men, continuing to change the academic and disciplinary culture, running out of the tunnel at home games, and seeing my seniors sign letters of intent to college," he said.
The game will be played at 4 p.m. Saturday and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Detroit, and the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association website.
