Three St. Clair Shores firefighters donned their full gear and joined more than 800 other people to climb 70 flights of stairs in the Renaissance Center for the American Lung Association.

They joined personnel from 22 other fire departments, and climbers from many other professions and backgrounds, in the long climb up the tallest building in Detroit to raise funds in the Second Annual American Lung Association Fight for Air Climb Firefighter Challenge.

Robert Cook, Dan Sebastian and Chad Hyvonen together raised $400 for the American Lung Association.

Sebastian had the top time, finishing the climb in 13:30. Hyvonen finished in 17:13, and Cook was just a few steps behind at 17:25.

Prior to tackling the stairs in the Ren Cen, the men practiced the climb in the 9 Mile tower in the Shore Club Apartments.
