Harper Open to Traffic

After five months of construction work on Harper, north of 13 Mile, crews have removed the orange barrels and opened the roadway to traffic.

Businesses and motorists can rejoice as Harper from 13 Mile Road north to the city limits is open for traffic.

The Macomb County Department of Roads recently opened Harper after nearly five months of construction work which included nearly two miles of concrete reconstruction and asphalt resurfacing.

The project stretched from 13 Mile to 15 Mile, and included the 14 Mile and Fisher intersection.

Looking out the front window of That's Amore Pizza, business owner Albert Hakim was pleased to see traffic flowing smoothly.

"Thank God it is open," he said Tuesday.

Hakim added that he had to advertise double during the construction, and is glad to get back to normal.

"There are more people on the road, and that means more business," he said.

The Macomb County Department of Roads still needs to clean the drain structures, apply permanent pavement markings and joint cutting along the roadway with an estimated completion date of Oct. 21. There will be single lane closures during this time, road officials report.

Now all we need is to get the county to get the traffic lights to sequence properly and give side streets an even shot at using the intersections.

That light is really long for some reason. The timings are off and need to be reset. As far as the repaving of Harper avenue they have done a tremendous job and it looks great. I commend the workers that did the paving. Great job. The street is so smooth now even for my motorcycle. Now it make the city of St. Clair shores look even better. Thank You.
