During this season of giving thanks, the director of the Great Lakes Burn Camp is sharing his gratitude with the members of the St. Clair Shores Firefighters Local #1744 for their donation this year.

Earlier this year, the firefighters held their 21st annual charity bowling tournament at Shore Lanes to benefit the Great Lakes Burn Camp and other local charities.

Their goal was to raise over $10,000. The goal was exceeded and allowed the firefighters to donate $15,000 to the camp.

"It is one our top three donations," said Mike Longnecker, director of the Great Lakes Burn Camp. "It is amazing what they did."

The donation was used to helped cover the expenses of the camp for children between 6-17 years-old who are burn survivors, rent the facility and provide activities for the campers.

"The donation they made was incredible," Longnecker said. "From the campers, they thank the firefighters."

The bowling fundraiser was one of many charitable events held by the firefighters throughout the year including assisting with the Senior Center apple pie fundraiser and providing fire safety presentations at events throughout the city.
