Go Fish! Volunteers Provide a Day of Fishing for Those With Special Needs
Local businesses, volunteer organizations and law enforcement agencies gathered at Island Harbor Marina Wednesday for the 34th Fishing Derby for Handicapped Kids.

Nearly 400 special needs children and adults from across Metro Detroit spent the day on the water fishing, interacting with clowns and enjoying a free lunch for the 34th Fishing Derby for Handicapped Kids at Island Harbor Marina.
"Everybody loves doing this," said Kelvin Salis, whose family owns the marina where the event is held. "It reminds you are lucky you are."
Dozens of volunteers were joined by members of the St. Clair Shores Fire Department and the Macomb County Sheriff's Office Marine Division to help the anglers on and off boats.
Nearly 25 captains donated their time, and vessels, to take the anglers on the water to catch the proverbial "big one."
Groups and businesses from throughout the community also donated to the event including the Shorewood Kiwanis, who gave particpants hats and sunscreen, Lakeside Fishing, Travis Restaurant, Tubby's Submarines, Northwoods Sportsmans Association and Mark's Fuel Dock.
