The grounds of the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House will be transformed into enchanted fairytale areas Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is the second year for the event, which offers character encounters, Cinderella's carriage, Rapunzel's braid and more.

Last year the event drew more than 2,300 people--many of whom were surveyed afterward about how it could be improved, what they liked the most and provided general feedback, Vice President of Communications for the Ford House, Ann Fitzpatrick said.

This year the festival has been organized into themed areas and will offer more hands-on activities for the children, she said. There are several craft making stations, professional facepainting, a sword-fighting activity in which the children are able to slay a dragon and a mermaid area, including a mermaid in the pool, Fitzpatrick said.

The Big Bad Wolf and Red Riding Hood will be among the characters on the grounds, along with five princesses, she said. The playhouse has been transformed into the house of the seven dwarfs from Snow White and there will be a Frog Princess area featuring some of the Grosse Pointe Frogs that can still be found around town, Fitzpatrick said.

Children will have the chance to make oragami frogs in that area, she said.

Tickets are available for advance purchase for $12. Walk-ins are welcome for $15 on the day of the event. Fitzpatrick anticipates the turnout to be similar to last year and changes to the layout of the festival have been made to make it less congested, she said.
