Election 2012 Brief: Voters to Receive New Voter ID Cards

Registered voters in St. Clair Shores will be receiving new voter identification cards this year and two precincts will be moved to a new location.

Registered voters in St. Clair Shores will be receiving a new voter identification card this week.

The city clerk is required by state election law to mail out new voter identification cards whenever the districts change.

This occurred this year after the U.S. Census and is part of the redistricting process. Voters in St. Clair Shores will be electing candidates to these new districts this August and November.

There are no changes to voting locations, except for Precincts 14, Greenwood School, and Precinct 15, Jefferson Middle School, which will now be voting in the Lakeview High School auditorium.

Residents do not need the voter identification card to vote, but they do need show picture identification to vote, according to City Clerk Mary Kotowski.

If a resident receives a card for anyone that no longer lives at the address, they are asked to mail it back to the city clerk's office with a note that the voter no longer lives at the address. Residents can also drop the card in the white drop box at City Hall to allow the voter registration to be cancelled.
