Perch Still Biting, Bringing Lots of Action in Lake St. Clair
Capt. Dan Chimelak of Lakeside Fishing Shop on Jefferson says there's still plenty of good fish to be caught out on the lake right now, and perch are especially hot.
Perch action is still big for local anglers on Lake St. Clair.
"It's still a good time of year to get out there and get some fish," according to local expert Dan Chimelak of Lakeside Fishing Shop on Jefferson. Capt. Dan, as he's known, said there has been "quite a bit of action with perch," straight out from the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club area, near the shipping channel.
He had reports of anglers having success in 15-16 feet of water. There are also reports of perch in and around the marinas. Capt. Dan cautions that most marinas don't allow fishing from the docks, so he suggests launching and boating in around the marinas.
There were also reports of good fishing along the entire stretch of the Detroit River, all the way down to Wyandotte.
On the Canadian side of the lake, Capt. Dan reports anglers catching muskies "right in the Thames River."
