Avalon Students Receive Backpacks Filled With School Supplies
Each student at Avalon Elementary received a backpack Tuesday filled with school supplies provided by Macomb Women for Kids.
Students at Avalon Elementary School will start the school year with new backpacks filled with school supplies provided by the Clinton Township-based Macomb Women for Kids.
Every school in Macomb County could apply to receive the backpacks from the all-volunteer organization of 10 women.
Avalon was selected from the schools which applied, and were distributed to students Tuesday during the beginning of the year picnic.
Virginia Bisby, president of Macomb Women for Kids, said Avalon was selected through the application letter and percentage of students who are part of the Federal Free Lunch program.
"It is truly overwhelming," said Jeanne Poleski, Avalon principal. "We couldn't be more grateful."

This was truly appreciated by my son and family. He has been out of work and has 3 attending Avalon this year.it made it possible for them to have new backpacks and supplies, something they didn't know how they would be able to purchase. The kids loved being able to bring home their new backpack and show them off. Thanks to all who made this possible.

I have had the pleasure of working with Macomb Women for Kids for the past three years as a volunteer. The chidren and families were so appreciative! It was a great evening watching the excitement as the children went through their backpacks. If you want information about how to help or become involved please contact alesniak@childhelp.org
