I just want to touch base on the crime happening in Saint Clair Shores. I have lived in Saint Clair Shores for 25 years in which 10 of it in Tangletown. I grew up in a city close by our city (which I won't mention by name), where I watched the crime getting worse and worse. I'm now seeing the pattern repeat itself in SCS. You read about some of the crime happening in the Sentinal, but not all of it. I myself know of two of our residents walking down a Tangletown street and being jumped and robbed. I know of two houses that were burlarized right down the street. My neighbors truck was stolen from their driveway. My van was stolen at a local business in the middle of the day with people all around. It ended up in Detroit, in which I was told is where it would end up. I'm sure other people have similar stories. Our police are wonderfulllll! They do what they can, but they just can't be everywhere all the time. We need to all work together and stop the crime. We need to feel safe in our neighborhoods. I think we should form some kind of crime committee. What does everyone think?

I agree as well. I live in Tangletown. My next door neighbor, just the other day knocked on my door to let me know someone tried to break into his home, later at night, while he was home, awake and watching TV. I grew up in "seedy" areas and purchased a home in this area to get a safe feeling.
I know crime can happen anywhere, but honestly...this is now why I moved, 8 years ago, to SCS.
The problem with a crime committee, neighborhood watch or other organizations like that are...kids, punks, criminals, etc., have no respect and no fear. You really have no power or authority, other than to say "Stay here while I call the cops".
And most kids and/or career criminals know the system and prisons are overflowing with more violent offenders. They'll be back on the streets in no time flat for a simple theft.
I love my neighbors, I love the area...but there is a bigger picture here that needs attention. More serious punishment for offenders. A slap on the wrist isn't getting it done.
I support your ideas, but we need everyone to jump on board and say enough is enough. Partial participation might as well be no participation at all.

DJG, your comment is right on the money. But if we can come up with some kind of ideal or suggestion just for SCS, or even a small area of SCS that can be tried out, maybe other cities can follow suit. Most big ideals start out small.

"Tangletown" is a subdivision with many winding( and confusing) streets
between 13 Mile RD to the south Harper to the east, Masonic to the north, and St Margaret to the west. Tanglewood is the name of one street , hence the moniker "Tangletown".

We all have to watch out for one another!
All of us who have lived in SCS for any length of time, know neighborhood residents who are out and about. Anyone not familiar to us in our neighborhoods is a potential threat. By using our vision and common sense, we can add a measure of safety and security on top of police protection.
And get a dog. A large dog, who is a bit skittish around strangers. They are the best early warning alert that something nearby isn't right.

A Dog is a very good idea. No one get's close to our Door with out our Dog letting them and us know he is there. Good idea indeed.

I think a dog is a great ideal, but it's hard to have one if you can't always be there with him. Has anyone else seen any other crime going on in their neighbor? Jimmy is right by saying we need to use our common sense and our eyes open. Now I hear their taking parts off cars while the cars are parked.
